Constant Velocity Truck

To demonstrate vectors and/or velocity, use the clown truck and a sheet of paper. To show velocities add, pull the paper with the truck. To see they subtract and cancel out, pull the paper opposite the truck. This demo can also be used to demonstrate a boat crossing a river.

Painted Meter Stick

A standard meter stick is painted on the inch side in alternating yellow and blues every 10 centimeters. This allows the class to read the meter stick from their seats with some accuracy. The metric side is not painted allowing the instructor to make a more accurate measurement. This meter stick is used for various demonstrations including, but not limited to, standards of mass and stretching a spring.

Walking Horse

A horse has a string attached to it and paper clips at the other end. Place the horse on a table and have the paper clips barely dangling off the end. Release the horse and the paper clips will pull the horse along the table. Once the horse gets to the edge of the table it will stop. This is because the tension vector is initially horizontal and pulling the horse. Then once the horse reaches the edge the tension vector is vertical and does not exert a horizontal force.
