The American Red Cross provides immediate emergency assistance to victims of natural and man-made disasters, offering aid in the form of vouchers to local merchants for shelter, food, clothing, and prescription medications, as well as mental health counseling. The Red Cross collaborates with other human service organizations to assist disaster victims on their path to full recovery.  The Red Cross works to ensure that all community members are educated in emergency preparedness and disaster prevention. Community courses in Adult and Infant/Child CPR, AED, First Aid, Water Safety, Lifeguard Training, Babysitting, and Wilderness Training are available, as well as specialized health & safety education and training for businesses, organizations and special interest groups.  The Red Cross also serves United States military personnel world wide acting as the emergency communication link between service members and loved ones at home.  

The United Way helps to fund this agency as best they can. In fact, their local office presence is possible because of the funds of the United Way . Without the United Way funding and general donations from the public, services provided to the community by the American Red Cross would be cut severely.
