Camp Blue Diamond is a year-round facility with six fulltime staff, and approximately twenty summer staff. Summer staff applications are available beginning in January. To receive an application call Camp Blue Diamond at (814) 667-2355.  Interviews and hiring occur in March and April. Compensation begins at $160/week plus room and board.  Summer staff fall into two categories.


 

Summer Program Staff  
are hired for about nine weeks in June, July and early August. These positions include counselors, lifeguards, a crafts director and a naturalist. These employees work directly with children, and must be high school graduates and at least eighteen years of age. Typically summer staff are college students who are studying education, social work or ministry and enjoy working with children and youth. 

 

Summer Support Staff are hired for ten weeks, starting one week later than program staff in June and working an extra two weeks in mid August. These positions include cooks, kitchen helpers and maintenance workers. These employees work indirectly with children.  

 

Full Time Staff

Dean & Jerri Heiser Wenger are the Executive Co-Directors of Camp Blue Diamond, and have held this position since 1991. Before coming to Camp Blue Diamond, Jerri was the Assistant Director at Camp Inspiration Hills, and Dean was a math teacher. Jerri is an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren and oversees programming and accreditation. Dean oversees business operations.  Dean is standing in the front row on the far left. Jerri is three to the right of Dean. Dean & Jerri have three boys: one in high school, one at Manchester College and one at Elizabethtown College. Dean plays trombone with the Middle PA District Brethren Brass ensemble, and the Huntingdon Country Community Band. Jerri is one of the advisors to the Middle PA District's Youth Ministry Team, and plays saxophone with the Community Band. 

Paul Witkovsky has been the Facility Director at Camp Blue Diamond since 1991. During the mid/late 80's Paul worked as a volunteer and a part-time employee at camp. Paul oversees the facilities and grounds at Camp Blue Diamond. He is responsible for all building projects, and keeping everything in good working order. In the staff photo Paul is sitting in the passenger seat of the truck. Paul is married to Julie, a school teacher and part time summer head cook. They have two daughters, one in middle school and one in high school. 

Brian Bert is Camp Blue Diamond's Program Director. He is a graduate of West Virginia University and a new addition to camp's full-time staff.  Brian is responsible for overseeing program staff and making sure summer camp is a success. He also oversees many of the children and youth retreats during the off-season. Before becoming the Program Director, Brian several as a fulltime counselor on summer staff. Brian enjoys reading (mysteries are his favorite), and he is a football referee for pee wee, junior high and high school football games. He is the sixth from the left (fourth from the right) in the last row of the photo. 

Deb Glenny is the Food Service Director/Financial Secretary at Camp Blue Diamond. She has worked at camp for over twenty years. Deb is responsible for overseeing kitchen operations and staff, and takes care of camp's finances. In 2004 Deb was awarded the OMA (Church of the Brethren Outdoor Ministry Association) Staff Person of the Year award!  Deb and her husband Jeff live near Petersburg and have a playful yellow Lab named Angel. Deb also loves to sew and quilt. She is far left in the middle row of the staff photo. 

Nick Neal is Camp Blue Diamond's Campground Director. Nick joined camp's fulltime staff in March 2005, but has been a regular part of CBD summers  for at least  fifteen + years, first as a camper, then as a maintenance & kitchen worker.  Nick is the host and maintenance guy in Camp Blue Diamond's RV & tent campground from May 15 - Oct. 15, and helps with general camp maintenance and in the kitchen the rest of the year. Nick is an accomplished pianist and organist and plays for several district and local churches.  Nick is located fourth from the right in the middle row in the staff photo (Three to the right of Paul, Two to the right of Virginia.)
