Camp
Blue Diamond is affiliated with the fifty-five
congregations of the Middle PA District Church of the
Brethren. The Church
of the Brethren is a nationwide denomination of
about 1100 congregations and 140,000 members. Founded in
1708 in Germany upon the scriptures of the New
Testament, Church of the Brethren members believe that
Jesus is the Son of God, the Holy Spirit is God's presence in the world today, baptism must be a conscious
choice made by the believer, and that believers should
practice social justice, simple
living, and peaceful nonresistance. Church of the Brethren beliefs are
similar to other churches which follow Anabaptist traditions, such as
Mennonites and Quakers.

Why
Church Camp Is Important!

I truly believe that every child should spend time at church camp during
the summer - but them again - I'm a camp director. I am also a parent. As
a parent I want my children to experience as many positive experiences as
possible during their growing-up years. These experiences include, but are
not limited to: Sunday School, 4-H, music drama, sports, travel, youth
group activities, reading, school clubs, art, marching band and much more.
What I appreciate
most about church camp is it allows young people to encounter Christ, live
in a community of like-minded peers, sing new songs, play games, tackle
challenges, see new places, and experience adventures like rock climbing,
backpacking and whitewater rafting. These activities teach life lessons
and make for life-long memories and friendships in a Christ-centered,
faith based community.
There are many opportunities for our children and grandchildren to take
part in during the summer – but none as holistic, and life-changing as
church camp. As a result of a church camp experience we have witnessed
many students return to camp in leadership roles, attend Brethren
colleges, enter Brethren Volunteer Service, go into ministry as a
vocation, and choose to work in service areas such as education &
social work. This is exciting! This is why the Camp Blue Diamond staff is
committed to outdoor ministry! Lives are changed, and leaders born. The
teachings of Christ proclaimed. –

Summer
Theme 2008 - God's World! Handle with Care!
God
saw everything that was made, and indeed it was very good - Genesis 1:31a
In
the beginning God hovered over the void, bringing order to the chaos and
creating something out of nothing. God made the heavens and the earth, the
sky, sun and stars, the day and night, the green plants and the blue
water. God made all creatures to walk, fly crawl, and swim, and God called
it all good.
During
the 2008 summer camp season campers will recognize and enjoy the goodness
of God's world and explore the meaning of a loving relationship with God
and creation. The daily themes and scriptures that will be explored:
-
It's
about Relationships: Genesis 1:4b-22
Campers will explore God's creation and be invited into relationship
with God and one another, learning how we can Handle with Care
the world God has given us.
-
It's all Good: Genesis
1:1-25
Campers will explore how God created order in the midst of chaos and
learn not only to enjoy creation in a wilderness setting, but discover
God's goodness in the intricacies of creation.
-
It's a Matter of
Choice: Genesis 6:11 - 9:17
As campers explore the story of Noah and the covenant God made with
Noah and humankind, they will see the impact made when they keep
promises with God, creation and others.
-
It's about Trust: Luke
12:13-32
Jesus tells us not to worry about food, or clothes, for life is much
more important than theses. As campers experience Jesus' words, they
will explore the barriers to trusting in God's provisions for the
world and how these fears affect their faith.
-
It's Just What We Do:
Matthew 25: 14-30
Studying the Parable of the Three Servants will help campers identify
their God given gifts, and how they can be faithful stewards in caring
for God's world.
-
It's God's World and
That's the Good News: Mark 16:9-20
Jesus is the Good news and after his resurrection he gave instructions
to his disciples to preach the gospel to the world. Campers will
explore ways to proclaim, in word and action, the new life revealed to
us in Christ, which is the good news for the world.
