A camper canoes on Diamond Lake at CBDRegistration for Camp is open!

Visit the summer camp pages to see details, dates, fees and photos for each summer camp. Brochures have been mailed to past campers. Brethren and American Baptist churches will receive brochures in early February. You can print off a Registration Form on this website too.

Don't forget Middle PA District Church of the Brethren congregations and Central Association ABCOPAD American Baptist churches typically pay 1/2 or more of the fee. Scholarship Aid is available too.

If you haven't seen last summer's video, check it out: Summer Camp Video.

CBD Accepting Summer Staff Applications:

If you love camp and enjoy working with kids, nothing is better than working at Camp Blue Diamond, and getting paid too. A head cook, counselors, maintenance & kitchen workers, a naturalist, lifeguard, ropes/tower director, and crafts director are all needed.  Applicants must be at least 18 years old Laban and staff lead music during a summer campfire (head cook at least 21, kitchen & maintenance at least 16), be committed Christians, enjoy children & youth and be able to live in harmony with others.

Being a part of camp staff is a great experience. Staff members grow in faith as well as leadership and communication skills. For those interested in teaching, ministry or social work (or just being a parent someday), it’s terrific on the job training too!

Pay is based on experience and begins at $185/week + room & board (all the food you can eat). Summer camp runs from June 10 – July 28 (longer for some kitchen & maintenance positions). If interested print off a copy of the
Summer Camp Staff Application and mail or email it to CBD

Work Weekend March 23rd & 24th: Volunteers from the Curryville Church put siding on the new Lakeside cabin
Mark your calendars for this year’s spring work days: March 23rd & 24th. Due to the mild winter CBD currently has a very good wood supply, so this year’s emphasis will be on preparing camp for outdoor school and the summer. In addition to raking the grounds and staining building there will be several small construction projects requiring semi-skilled carpentry. We will be cutting/splitting firewood, but not as much as in the past, so if you can come and help in other ways that would be appreciated. Youth & Jr. Hi groups with advisors are welcome too! Flyers and details will be sent to churches in February, or Contact Paul at CBD for additional information.

Annual Dinners March 30th & 31st: The Saturday night crowd from last year's annual dinners.

This year’s Annual Dinners will be March 30th & 31st. CBD favorite Joseph Helfrich will provide entertainment, and the dinner will be steak tips and baked potato! Come hear a Camp Update, feast on a great meal, and enjoy Joseph’s music and stories. Cost is $40, with proceeds going toward replacing the carpet for the Lodge Basement and building a new basketball court.

Tickets will be available from your church’s waiter in mid-February. If your congregation has not participated in the past, Contact Dean at CBD and find out how your church can help camp raise funds for these needed improvements.

Outdoor School Discovery takes place along the trail at Outdoor School
Camp Blue Diamond is a beautiful setting for learning about the environment, and what needs to be done to protect it for future generations. During the 2011-2012 School Year, Shaver'sCreek Outdoor School and Camp Blue Diamond will host six weeks of Fall Outdoor School and eight weeks of Spring Outdoor School. Fifth graders from Juniata Valley Elementary, Huntingdon City Schools, Mifflin County Schools, Lancaster Day School, and the CLC Charter School (State College) will be part of the Shaver's Creek Program. Students from Bellwood Middle School and the Friends School (State College) will did their own programming, with CBD providing the facility and foodservice.

Each week at Outdoor School two or three classrooms and their teachers came to learn about Pennsylvania wildlife, how early settlers lived, and what they can do to protect the environment.

Outdoor School leaders and students play a nature gameDuring Outdoor School, CBD provides the foodservice, facilities and maintenance.  Most weeks Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center provides the instructors and programming and gets the volunteer counselors from Penn State and Juniata College. Two schools do their own programming.

At Outdoor School kids discover the intricacies of creation. They discover just how rugged and dangerous the wild places can be, but also how fragile they are too. They learn how their lifestyles and decisions can protect and preserve the environment not only for themselves, but also for their children and grandchildren.

If you have questions about Outdoor School please contact Shaver's Creek Environmental Center at (814) 667-3424 or Camp Blue Diamond at (814) 667-2355.
